Hawaiian Women Sent Home
Sexual Abuse Charges at Otter Creek
Following the recent sexual abuse charges made against officers at the Otter Creek Correctional Center in Wheelwright, KY, Hawaii decided to take its female prisoners out of the facility and send them back to Hawaii. A recent New York Times article outlines the factors in this decision and discusses the economic impact on renting prisoners. Otter Creek is a private facility run by the Corrections Corporation of America and has been housing 168 women from Hawaii.
Thousand Kites is about to launch a campaign to stop the practice of renting prisoners between states. Check out the intro to the campaign and learn how you can get involved.
