VI Prison Project hosts Up the Ridge Screening
On Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 5:30 pm, the Virgin Islands Prison Project will host a second screening of UP THE RIDGE following their Nov 23 screening that over 150 people attended.
This next screening will be held at the New Thomas Bakery Building, Estate Castle Coakley on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Prison Project (VIPP) is a collective of
committed volunteers, responsible to each other and the prisoners and
communities we serve. We seek to change the lives of incarcerated
people and the prison environment by challenging all to embrace values
of accountability, respect, restoration and nonviolence. We seek
creative approaches to justice that actively involves all who are
impacted by crime – victims, offenders, their communities of care and
the broader community – and to promote accountability, healing and the
common good. Creating alternatives to the current paradigm requires
that we broaden our options in responding to harm in our communities.
Contact VIPP for more information.
The VIPP has made the news after this first screening. Kim Lyons, Director of the VIPP is quoted in the article:
“While this film doesn’t specifically highlight the plight of our
prisoners, it does tell an important story about the kind of
environment we are paying to house our people in,” said Kim Lyons,
Project Coordinator of the Virgin Islands Prison Project.
